On Monday we welcomed Grant Hodson Davis into our family. Grant was born at 10:03pm at McKay Dee Hospital. He weighed 8 lbs 11 oz. and was 20 1/2 in. long. The baby came a little bit early (not officially due until Nov. 8), but we were not really suprised by his timing. I have been out of town for most of October and returned home (to stay for a while) on Thursday October 23. I originally planned on flying home on Friday, but Anika (and Jeremy and my mother) called me on Wednesday/Thursday telling me that the baby could come at any time. Thus I switched my flight and came home a day early. When I got home on Thursday I figured that we would rush to the hospital, however baby Grant decided that he wanted to wait a few extra days.
I have been giving baby Grant little pep talks for about a month that he couldn't come until I finished my big work project. On Monday night I was finalizing the project at the office and had just barely dropped my completed binders off to the UPS man when Anika called to tell me that her water had broke. What great timing.
I suggested that Anika call one of the neighbors and have them drive her to the hospital. Anika decided that she would load the girls into the car and drive herself (while in labor) over to her mother's house. Probably not the safest decision, however everything worked out fine. As for me, I ran from the office to my car and then sped (at least by my standards) from SLC to Ogden.
When I arrived at the hospital, Anika's mom had already checked her in. That was about 7 pm. A short 3 hours later baby Grant was born. Everything went well at the hospital and we all came home on Wednesday morning.
